Note: And start of an exciting life- like "have talents will travel!" Their
father Mathew William was, however a soldier during the civil war. He,
along with his brother John P were Pvts. in Co K, 16th Regiment of the NC
Infantry. He also served in Co. C, 34th Regt., NC. troops, which he
entered Sept 6, 1863. A few months later he was paroled at Appomattox
Court House, this on April 9, 1864, and no doubt walked home with the
oldest son of Mathew William and Martha Corn.

Note: When small would often cry and it sounded to the family like a bumble
bee; hence his mane became, and quite lovingly "Bum", or in later years =
just "Uncle Bum".
